LOST...is almost here!

Hi Everyone,

I think it's time to let you all know that I have another obsession in addition to Fast, Sexy, OH-SO-HOT, Muscle Cars...it's the TV show LOST.

I have watched LOST from the very first show and my feelings towards the show boarder on "cult-ish". I never miss a show, my DVR is set with LOST as "top priority, always record no matter what and above all, with 100% protection to not be skipped"...I absolutely love LOST!

I think LOST is one of the best shows to ever hit TV. This is it's final season, all will be revealed and the lost who are always lost even though they have watched every episode multiple times, will no longer be LOST! (you have to be a LOST watcher to totally understand that last sentence). It is a bitter-sweet season of LOST for me because I'd rather stay Lost and have the show continue than to learn all the secrets that will be revealed, but as the saying goes "all good things must come to an end", thus LOST will end this year :-(

The final season will start on Tuesday, Feb 2, 2010! On ABC

I have collected LOST items since the first season, I will now publicly reveal the extent of my obsession. I own:

  • a LOST canvas bag (very cool, no longer available)
  • a green LOST womans Tee (season 1, no longer available)
  • a teal/bluish LOST womans Tee (Season 2, no longer available)
  • a black LOST baseball hat (no longer available)
  • a blue Dharma Hoodie
  • a Geronimo Jackson Tee
  • a gray Dharma Tee
  • a red Dharma tee
  • a blue Dharma Stations stainless steel drinking bottle
  • a LOST calendar from season 1(already selling for $30.00, but I'm not selling mine)
  • 6 pint size Dharma Stations glasses
  • 6 Dharma Stations shot glasses
  • a pewter and leather Dharma key fob
  • a bronze and leather Dharma key fob
  • Season 1 dvd set
  • Season 2 dvd set
  • Season 3 dvd set
  • Season 4 dvd set
  • Season 5 dvd set
I'm sure I will add more items before the show ends :-)

Here is an interview from the show's actors talking about the season premier:

Let me know if any of you are LOST watchers!

How Things Really Are...

On Wednesday the President will give his State Of The Union address, I wanted to post a few stastics according to the U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Economic Analysis although I will make my disclaimer right now...can we trust this information? I cannot vouch for the validity of this information based on the people compiling and disseminating the statistics.

I think the following item worn on the ear, should be worn prior to the Wednesday State Of The Union Address!

*****Please note- The State of the Union address is on Wednesday...the new GDP report comes out on "January 29, 2010", two days after the President gives us the report....interesting...why doesn't he wait two days and give us the real info?

GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT:  THIRD QUARTER 2009 (THIRD ESTIMATE)
CORPORATE PROFITS:  THIRD QUARTER 2009 (REVISED ESTIMATE)

Real gross domestic product -- the output of goods and services produced by labor and property
located in the United States -- increased at an annual rate of 2.2 percent in the third quarter of
2009, (that is, from the second quarter to the third quarter), according to the "third" estimate
released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis.  In the second quarter, real GDP decreased 0.7 percent.

The GDP estimate released today is based on more complete source data than were available for
the "second" estimate issued last month.  In the second estimate, the increase in real GDP was 2.8
percent (see "Revisions" on page 3).

The increase in real GDP in the third quarter primarily reflected positive contributions from
personal consumption expenditures (PCE), exports, private inventory investment, federal government
spending, and residential fixed investment that were partly offset by a negative contribution from
nonresidential fixed investment.  Imports, which are a subtraction in the calculation of GDP, increased.

The upturn in real GDP in the third quarter primarily reflected upturns in PCE, in exports, in
private inventory investment, and in residential fixed investment and a smaller decrease in
nonresidential fixed investment that were partly offset by an upturn in imports, a downturn in state and
local government spending, and a deceleration in federal government spending.

_______________
FOOTNOTE.--Quarterly estimates are expressed at seasonally adjusted annual rates, unless otherwise
specified.  Quarter-to-quarter dollar changes are differences between these published estimates.  Percent
changes are calculated from unrounded data and are annualized.  “Real” estimates are in chained (2005)
dollars.  Price indexes are chain-type measures.

This news release is available on BEA’s Web site along with the Technical Note and Highlights
related to this release.
_______________

Motor vehicle output added 1.45 percentage points to the third-quarter change in real GDP after
adding 0.19 percentage point to the second-quarter change.  Final sales of computers subtracted 0.08
percentage point from the third-quarter change in real GDP after subtracting 0.04 percentage point from
the second-quarter change.

The price index for gross domestic purchases, which measures prices paid by U.S. residents,
increased 1.3 percent in the third quarter, 0.1 percentage point less than the second estimate; this index
increased 0.5 percent in the second quarter.  Excluding food and energy prices, the price index for gross
domestic purchases increased 0.3 percent in the third quarter, compared with an increase of 0.8 percent
in the second.

Real personal consumption expenditures increased 2.8 percent in the third quarter, in contrast to
a decrease of 0.9 percent in the second.  Real nonresidential fixed investment decreased 5.9 percent,
compared with a decrease of 9.6 percent.  Nonresidential structures decreased 18.4 percent, compared
with a decrease of 17.3 percent.  Equipment and software increased 1.5 percent, in contrast to a decrease
of 4.9 percent.  Real residential fixed investment increased 18.9 percent, in contrast to a decrease of
23.3 percent.

Real exports of goods and services increased 17.8 percent in the third quarter, in contrast to a
decrease of 4.1 percent in the second.  Real imports of goods and services increased 21.3 percent, in
contrast to a decrease of 14.7 percent.

Real federal government consumption expenditures and gross investment increased 8.0 percent
in the third quarter, compared with an increase of 11.4 percent in the second.  National defense increased
8.4 percent, compared with an increase of 14.0 percent.  Nondefense increased 7.0 percent, compared
with an increase of 6.1 percent.  Real state and local government consumption expenditures and gross
investment decreased 0.6 percent, in contrast to an increase of 3.9 percent.

The change in real private inventories added 0.69 percentage point to the third-quarter change in
real GDP, after subtracting 1.42 percentage points from the second-quarter change.  Private businesses
decreased inventories $139.2 billion in the third quarter, following decreases of $160.2 billion in the
second quarter and $113.9 billion in the first.

Real final sales of domestic product -- GDP less change in private inventories -- increased 1.5
percent in the third quarter, compared with an increase of 0.7 percent in the second.

Gross domestic purchases

Real gross domestic purchases -- purchases by U.S. residents of goods and services wherever
produced -- increased 3.0 percent in the third quarter, in contrast to a decrease of 2.3 percent in the
second.

Gross national product

Real gross national product -- the goods and services produced by the labor and property
supplied by U.S. residents -- increased 3.0 percent in the third quarter, in contrast to a decrease of 1.0
percent in the second.  GNP includes, and GDP excludes, net receipts of income from the rest of the
world, which increased $25.7 billion in the third quarter after decreasing $7.4 billion in the second; in
the third quarter, receipts increased $15.7 billion, and payments decreased $10.0 billion.

Current-dollar GDP

Current-dollar GDP -- the market value of the nation's output of goods and services -- increased
2.6 percent, or $90.9 billion, in the third quarter to a level of $14,242.1 billion.  In the second quarter,
current-dollar GDP decreased 0.8 percent, or $26.8 billion.

Revisions

The "third" estimate of the third-quarter increase in real GDP is 0.6 percentage point, or $17.3
billion, lower than the second estimate issued last month, primarily reflecting downward revisions to
nonresidential fixed investment, to private inventory investment, and to personal consumption
expenditures.

Advance Estimate     Second Estimate      Third Estimate
                                                 (Percent change from preceding quarter)

Real GDP..................................      3.5                 2.8                 2.2
Current-dollar GDP........................      4.3                 3.3                 2.6
Gross domestic purchases price index......      1.6                 1.4                 1.3

                                        Corporate Profits

Profits from current production (corporate profits with inventory valuation and capital
consumption adjustments) increased $132.4 billion in the third quarter, compared with an increase of
$43.8 billion in the second quarter.  Current-production cash flow (net cash flow with inventory
valuation adjustment) -- the internal funds available to corporations for investment -- increased $28.4
billion in the third quarter, in contrast to a decrease of $30.5 billion in the second.

Taxes on corporate income increased $15.1 billion in the third quarter, compared with an increase
of $35.6 billion in the second.  Profits after tax with inventory valuation and capital consumption
adjustments increased $117.3 billion in the third quarter, compared with an increase of $8.2 billion in
the second.  Dividends decreased $6.1 billion, compared with a decrease of $62.1 billion; current-
production undistributed profits increased $123.5 billion, compared with an increase of $70.3 billion.

Domestic profits of financial corporations increased $82.8 billion in the third quarter, compared
with an increase of $28.5 billion in the second.  Domestic profits of nonfinancial corporations increased
$27.6 billion in the third quarter, compared with an increase of $29.8 billion in the second.  In the third
quarter, real gross value added of nonfinancial corporations increased, and profits per unit of real value
added increased.  The increase in unit profits reflected decreases in both unit nonlabor and labor costs
that more than offset a decrease in unit prices.

The rest-of-the-world component of profits increased $22.0 billion in the third quarter, in contrast
to a decrease of $14.6 billion in the second.  This measure is calculated as (1) receipts by U.S. residents
of earnings from their foreign affiliates plus dividends received by U.S. residents from unaffiliated
foreign corporations minus (2) payments by U.S. affiliates of earnings to their foreign parents plus
dividends paid by U.S. corporations to unaffiliated foreign residents.  The third-quarter increase was
accounted for by a larger increase in receipts than in payments.

Profits before tax with inventory valuation adjustment is the best available measure of industry
profits because estimates of the capital consumption adjustment by industry do not exist.  This measure
reflects depreciation-accounting practices used for federal income tax returns.  According to this
measure, domestic profits of both financial and nonfinancial corporations increased in the third quarter.
The increase in nonfinancial corporations reflected increases in utilities, information, "other"
nonfinancial, retail trade, and transportation and warehousing that were partly offset by decreases in
wholesale trade and manufacturing.  Within manufacturing, the largest decrease was in “other” durable
goods, and the largest increase was in motor vehicles.

Profits before tax increased $157.9 billion in the third quarter, compared with an increase of $90.6
billion in the second.  The before-tax measure of profits does not reflect, as does profits from current
production, the capital consumption and inventory valuation adjustments.  These adjustments convert
depreciation of fixed assets and inventory withdrawals reported on a tax-return, historical-cost basis to
the current-cost measures used in the national income and product accounts.  The capital consumption
adjustment increased $9.7 billion in the third quarter (from -$128.6 billion to -$118.9 billion), compared
with an increase of $16.3 billion in the second.  The inventory valuation adjustment decreased $35.2
billion (from $18.1 billion to -$17.1 billion), compared with a decrease of $63.0 billion.

Do You Have A "Bucket List"?

Hi Everyone,

Well...it's been a week since my last post, I'm sorry, but once in a while "life" sneaks up on me and gives me a firm slap along side my head. The last 12 days have been a pretty hard hit for me emotionally, but, I think I have things back in order now and find myself taking another good look at my life in general. I think that's what we are meant to do when "life" smacks you in the face.

I won't go into great detail here, but I did lose a good friend recently and it really threw me for a loop. I don't know why, but I foolishly thought he was invincible, I was wrong.

It has been 9 days since his death and with each day that passes, I am able to look at our times together and the friendship we shared as something truly special. I am so honored to have been one of his friends and will be forever thankful for the strength, inspiration and joy he gave me over the 20 plus years I knew him. Rest in Peace Bryon.

I love the movie "The Bucket List". I think Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman do such a fabulous job in that movie and seem to have that magical chemistry that when all is done, comes together to make a great movie.

Staying true to my "Motor-Headness", here is one of my favorite scenes from "The Bucket List":

After spending the past week in a contemplative state of mind, I realize that over the past few years I have subconsciously been creating my own "Bucket List". I'll share a few of the things on my list with you:

  • I want to one day live by the ocean.
  • Own a GTO (not sure on the year yet)
  • See Aerosmith in concert. (soon, Steven Tyler isn't getting any younger!)
  • Travel to Europe.
  • Sit on a veranda, in the tropics, with Tracy and make cat calls at young men, while drinking Margaritas (very doable)
  • See all my children grown, living the life that makes them happy.
Well that's just a few of the items on my list, I'm sure the list will continue to grow. I would love to hear what some of you have on your list...or if you have a "Bucket List". Send me your comments, I'm looking forward to reading them :-)

Now I have to add a video of my favorite Aerosmith songs :-)

I hope you are all well. Take care.

RepairPal.com~ My 2010 "Check It Out" Site.

Hi Everyone,

Those of you who have been following my blog for the past year or so, know that from time to time, when I find a service or product that I think we can all benefit from, I like to share the information with you. As consumers, one of the most powerful things we can do is "word of mouth" advertising.

I found a service that I think many of us could benefit from, it's called RepairPal.com. I sure could have used this service back when I told you all about the collision my 17 year old daughter had in my Jeep last year! Remember how I was told by one repair shop that the Jeep would cost me between $4000.00 to $5000.00 to fix, but after having another mechanic go get the Jeep for me, he said it was drivable and I could get it fixed for around $1500.00-$2000.00, then in the end, I was able to get the Jeep drivable and back on the road for about $1800.00. It sure would have been easier to have used RepairPal.com and avoided all the confusion.

After doing some research, I discovered that with RepairPal you can have the information you need when it's time for a service or repair. They have compiled massive amounts of pricing for parts, labor, possible causes for part-break down, local area shops, dealers and repairmen, allowing you, the car owner, to go into the repair or service call educated and informed.

Here's an example of how RepairPal can help you. Lets say you live in Arizona and need to replace the water pump on your car. Just go to RepairPal.com  type in the search box "Phoenix auto repair" and then type in the search "water pump replacement", a page with a list of information and links will be provided, click on the link "water pump replacement" and you will be taken to their Encyclopedia page on that subject. You will find out why the pump could have failed, what goes into repairing the pump and what the costs could be!

I did a random search on "timing belt", because I am looking at having to replace this part on my daughter's Honda Civic. I was provided with all the information I needed to understand, how the timing belt keeps internal engine components in sync by causing valves to open and close at the proper time. I was then provided with a list of recent timing belt replacement estimates. If I needed the same information on a 2001 Ford Escort, I would have just typed in "ford escort". It's that easy!

There are so many things you can do on the RepairPal.com website, you should visit a few of the links I have provided and see for yourself how comprehensive and helpful it can be for anyone facing service or repairs on almost any vehicle.

There are a lot of things I have basic knowledge of when it comes to the cars I own, but now I have found a website that can provide me with in-depth information on anything I need to know about my car, worded in a way that is easy to read, understand and packed with resources. Check out RepairPal.com for yourself.

"A Cover for my Mother" by Teddy Carcich

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to share this with you, I'm totally blown away by how sweet this is!

My son Teddy, called me and said "Mom have you seen my Facebook page?" I replied "no", he said "well, go look at it, I did something for you".

Here it is:

And here is another Youtube video Teddy did. I'm just a little biased, but I think he is very talented...and for the most part, self-taught on the guitar except for a few basic lessons one summer about 5 or 6 years ago! He is taking lessons now though, he just started them right before Christmas.

I love you Teddy, you Rock!

More important than Muscle cars~ For Vicki

Today my thoughts are all focused on my dear friend Vicki Luedke.

I have known Vicki for 22 years. She has been a very close friend to me and has, on many occasions, dropped everything she was doing to help me in my times of need. When I was fighting for my life in a hospital hundred's of miles away from my family and friends, she made sure my children had Christmas presents under the tree...when I didn't have the money to buy them gifts. Vicki cooked meals, did laundry, ran errands ...the list goes on and on. She is a true friend in every way.

A few months ago Vicki started feeling weak and "just not up to par", her daughter Jen, after some begging, convinced Vicki to go to the doctor to see what was going on. The news wasn't good in fact, Vicki was rushed by ambulance to a larger hospital, Sacred Heart in Spokane, Washington, that day. She was very near death, diagnosed with acute Leukemia.

Vicki has been fighting this horrible disease for months now, but hope is on the horizon. A donor, a perfect match, for a bone marrow transplant has been found and on Wednesday (fingers crossed), Vicki will have the transplant. The real battle begins following transplant as her body will try to reject the "foreign" stem cells that are meant to save her life!

Every April Vicki and I have a competition. We fill our hummingbird feeders with food and await the arrival of our favorite birds. It's a toss-up as to how many times each of us has had the first sighting over the years. The minute we spot the first bird at our feeders, we call each other. It is my hope that Vicki wins the competition this year.

The following photo and video are to honor my dear friend. I can't wait for you to come home from Seattle Vicki! I love you.

To my readers....please send Vicki your thoughts. You don't need to know her, just send positive energy her way ...please. If anyone wants to send her some words of encouragement you can read her journal and sign her guestbook here: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/vickiluedke ...just tell her "Sharon sent you".

American Sports Cars~ Part 2- The WOODILL WILDFIRE 1952 - 1956

In the 1950's "Woody" Woodill become one of the most successful Dodge dealers in the nation. He was so successful that he was allowed to add the Willys line and had always wanted to drive as his own personal mode of transportation a sports car. He loved sleek lines of the new Jaguar X K 120, but had been discouraged by many people from buying one based on it's reputation "to be a rather unreliable car and definitely hard to get parts for."

In a conversation with his neighbor Howard Miller, Howard suggested "Why not build your own sports car using all American running gear?" This set Woody on the path to creating the Woodill Wildfire.

What Woody wanted was a sports car that used all Willys' components. He solved this problem with the guidance of Howard Miller by having Shorty Post, a noted hot rod builder of the day, fabricate a sturdy frame that would accept all Willys Jeepster suspension components and adapt itself to the Glasspar body.

The hand laid body was of the highest quality, far surpassing the Kaiser Darrins and Chevrolet Corvettes which were to come later.

Once the bodies were delivered, Howard Miller assembled the components and made the final adjustments. The little Willys engine was set far enough back in the car to give them an almost perfect 50/50 weight ratio. Cornering was superb and the car with a hot cam, three carbs and headers has supposedly obtained speeds in excess of 120 MPH!

Woody ended up with many obstacles in getting his little sports car into production, but Woody managed to keep the Wildfire alive until 1956 in this country. After that time, he went to other countries where he almost made it big in Australia. The little car he built was definitely a notable piece of American automotive history.

Woodill Wildfire seen below, in the movie "Johnny Dark". The car was named the "Idaho Special"

New Tattoo from Art Damage in Wasilla AK

Hi Everyone,

I thought I would share some photos of my newest tattoo.

My regular reader's know that my best friend is Tracy (pictured above...she would kill me for putting this picture of her up! This was taken at Caesars Palace in Vegas 2009) Anyway, when I went to Alaska in August '09, we got matching tattoo's. Her son Chad, is a tattoo artist and he designed the tattoo's for us, then, painstakingly suffered through the task of tattooing us! Not only do we talk non-stop when we are together, but we tend to think we are very funny also! We are loud and obnoxious and if we have had a couple drinks...it only gets worse!

(Mt. McKinley in the background- awesome!)
So once Chad has finished drawing our special design, we headed to his studio to begin the process. I already know what to expect because I have another tattoo that I had done in the Fall of 2008. Tracy was still a tattoo virgin, so I was looking forward to watching her get her first Tat!

Ok...I know it's not the best photo of us, but, we were feeling no pain at this point (for various reasons) and we opted for no make-up that day. I must make a statement at this time which is required in order to maintain the integrity of my 35+ year friendship...Tracy's "bum" looks larger in this picture than it is in person...in all fairness to her, she has a pillow under her hips because she has a lower back "issue" and laying on that table was very uncomfortable for her. (there, you should be happy Tracy).

We were/are very happy with the tattoo's Chad did for us. An interesting thing happened a few hours before we headed to Chad's studio. Tracy and I were sitting outside on her deck having a coffee and enjoying a gorgeous sunny day in Wasilla, when all of the sudden a blue/green dragonfly flew up to us, circled around our heads and then suddenly landed on Tracy's cheek! We had already chosen our design, so we figured it was a good omen and the dragonfly was giving us his blessings.

If you ever make it to Alaska and find yourself in the area of Wasilla, stop in and see Chad at Art Damage. He is an amazing artist!

Made In America Sports Cars

Hi Everyone,

I hope 2010 has been good to you so far.

Well, as some of you know, a challenge was given to me by a reader in the UK, yes, you Steve! Steve is a blogger that is a "follower" of mine and I am a "follower" of his blog So life begins at 40 does it?

On a recent post I did about my best friend's car from high school, Steve put me to the test to find an American made car that can handle the road as well as or comparable to European cars. So here is one  American car that, in my opinion, can hold its own against European sports cars.

From the get go, I believe the Corvette has to be in the number one position!
The first Corvette pictured is a 1965, the Black one is 1966.

The Mark IV 396-ci 425-hp V8 engine debuts on the 1965 Corvette. The Mako Shark II show car debuts at the New York International Auto Show. The 1966 model introduces the 427-ci engine, at up to 450-hp.

The Red Vet pictured below is a 1971 Convertible 4 speed 350/270hp. In 1971 a Corvette finishes fourth overall in the 24 Hours of Daytona race, the highest showing to date for a Corvette at this race. A Car & Driver reader poll votes the Corvette the Best All-around Car.

Ok Steve...what do you think? Did I manage to find an American Classic Muscle Car that is:

  • Awesome
  • Gorgeous
  • Classic
  • Hauls Ass
  • Sounds Throaty and Sexy
  • Handles like it is magnetized to the road
The Corvette can hold it's own just on it's iconic status alone...but we all know, it's reputation is well deserved.

1969 GTO Judge

John Kryta, president of Inline Tube, found this ’69 GTO Judge and set out to do a total restor on it. The GTO sat neglected in a carport after carburetor problems sidelined it in 1981. With 77,000 miles on the odometer, the engine was seized, the interior was shot, and the body was far from perfect. John, his brother James, and a select crew of craftsmen spent 2,000 hours on a ground-up, frame-off restoration; 600 of those hours were delegated to bodywork and the Carousel Red paint.

The car was completely numbers-matching, with all original date codes and parts.
